Year 1

In Year 1, we continue our learning journey. Our teachers and teaching assistants work very closely with our Reception teachers to help us to transition from the EYFS to the more formal National Curriculum. 

In Year 1, just like the rest of the school, we follow a 2-week timetable to accommodate all of our learning opportunities. Most mornings we learn Maths, English and Phonics. In the afternoon we study a range of subjects including RE, Science, PE, PSHE, Computing, Art, DT, Music, History and Geography. 

During Year 1, we complete the national phonics screening check. This takes place during the summer term and is completed with the children by their regular class teacher and teaching assistants. Information regarding the screening check is shared with parents throughout the academic year.  

Our Catholic faith is at the centre of all we do, and we start and end each day with prayers. In the mornings we either share assemblies or Prayer and Liturgy with our own and other classes. We attend Mass on alternate weeks with Year 3 and Year 5.
